Speed never thought he'd been so glad to see Horatio in all his life. He walked up to his supervisor, motorcycle helmet held loosely in one hand.
"Michelle Cormier's parents just flew in," he told the redhaired man in a low voice. He glanced out of the corner of his eye at the couple, who were sitting on one of the sets of chairs that lined the corridor. Looking at Horatio helplessly Tim added, "I didn't know what to tell them." Analyzing trace, he could do. Photographing evidence at a scene, sure. But talking to distraught family members...that was not Tim Speedle's strong suit.
Horatio nodded. "Okay, I'll take it." He acted as if to move toward them, then turned back to Speedle. "You wanted to know why forensics?" Horatio asked. Speed didn't answer; he was already regretting having made that remark. He had been frustrated, all of them were, that they couldn't arrest Clavo Cruz for Tess Kimball's murder despite all of the evidence they had against him.
Without waiting for Speed to respond, H glanced over at Michelle Cormier's grieving parents. "This is why," he said. And with that he walked over and sat down beside Mrs. Cormier. "Mr. and Mrs. Cormier, I'm Horatio Caine..."
Speed watched as H spoke to the parents, telling them that their daughter's murderer had been arrested and that Michelle would be able to rest in peace. As Michelle's mother broke down in tears, Horatio turned and looked over his shoulder at his CSI.
Tim turned and left. As he put his hand on the door to exit the building, a small smile appeared on his face.
Yeah, he got it.
Dialogue from episode 2.01: Blood Brothers.
